Hello!
Originally from Las Cruces, NM, I’ve lived mostly in San Antonio, TX, since 1996. As a queer Latinx person born, raised, and residing in or near the borderlands, I know a thing or two about navigating in-between spaces, languages, and otherness. When traveling, I’ve been asked too many times to count: What are you?
Books were my first love. I’m a reader above all else and still get a thrill every time I visit the neighborhood branch library and walk out with an armful of books from writers across genres and continents. In 2024, I started a small book club that explores work by Latinx authors. This group brings me life! We gather monthly to discuss stories old and new, debate, laugh, and, of course, eat delicious food.
I studied English literature at the undergrad and graduate levels and have participated in many writing workshops, including Lambda Literary’s beloved Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices. I’m currently a fiction editor at Story.
For over a decade, I worked as a senior editor in the business world where I helped a global team of analysts develop, organize, and polish their writing, spanning sectors from cybersecurity to automotive to healthcare. But my heart has always been in creative writing, and I’m now in a position to focus my editing energy there.
My mission is to work with BIPOC, queer, or otherwise marginalized writers of fiction and creative nonfiction. Whether published or unpublished, degreed or self-taught, if you’re working on a creative project and need some support, I’d love to hear from you. Now more than ever our voices must be heard. Small presses, lit mags, and even the big houses want our stories, so let’s keep getting them out there!
Take a look at my services and contact me so we can get started.
I look forward to meeting you!
